Look Younger: Plastic Surgery Talk Show Explores Fillers

Look younger with just a quick in-office procedure? Sounds too good to be true, but plastic surgeons can add volume and create the youthful look patients desire using soft tissue fillers. The latest episode of Plastic Surgery Talk reveals how.

Dr Chris Inglefield and Dr Haideh HirmandIn our image-conscious world, the natural aging process can be a cause of anxiety. From fine lines around the eyes to deeper creases around the mouth and lips, or the telltale “11″ left by a frequently furrowed brow, our faces leave tell-tale signs of the joys and challenges experienced in years gone by — signs we’d often prefer the rest of the world didn’t see.

“Every patient comes with a different complaint,” says Dr. Haideh Hirmand, a plastic surgeon based in New York City, who frequently sees patients wanting to turn back the hands of time. The answer, in many cases, is to use the newest generation of soft tissue fillers to minimize wrinkles and laugh lines, and restore volume to the face.

Article continues below video player.

Dr. Hirmand joined host Dr. William P. Adams, Jr. and fellow guest Dr. Christopher Inglefield, a prominent UK plastic surgeon, for a special episode of Plastic Surgery Talk taped at the 2009 annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons to discuss the growing popularity of soft tissue fillers.

As we age, the body cuts down on the amount of fat in the face, notes Dr. Hirmand, making fillers an excellent option for restoring a youthful look.

Facial fillers are products injected into areas on the face to give that area more volume. Numerous kinds are available on the market, from collagen-based fillers to silicone to hyaluronic acid gels, and each has its place, depending on a patient’s needs and desired outcomes. The most popular brand names include Juvederm, Restylane, Perlane and Prevelle Silk.

“Every decade the body adjusts, and we preferentially lose fat in our faces,” she said. By using fillers, surgeons can fill in marionette lines around the mouth, crows feet, thinning lips, and hollows around the eyes to make a patient appear younger, well-rested and refreshed.

In the UK, another filler, called Macrolane, is now being used not only on the face, but also for small breast augmentations.

“It’s for a woman who wants one cup size, one-and-a-half cup size increase,” explains Dr. Inglefield. “It is done under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis, as a sort of walk in, walk out procedure.”

Although the use of Macrolane fillers for breast augmentation is gaining popularity oversees, the product has not been approved in the U.S. to increase breast size, and the long-term results are still unknown.

Kourtney Kardashian gets showered with gifts in a party thrown by sisters Kim and Khloe. Kourtney and Scott Disick are expecting their baby boy this December.

Kourtney Kardashian PregnantKhloe Kardashian handed off the spotlight to older sis Kourtney for her baby shower Saturday, as friends and family gathered to celebrate the newest addition to the Kardashian clan.

Family, college friends and others gathered at the Kris and Bruce Jenner’s Calabasas home to shower Kourtney with gifts for her and boyfriend Scott Disick’s baby boy. In true Kardashian style, both Kim and Khloe arrived late.

A sign in the window of the sisters’ boutique, Dash, informed any would-be shoppers that the store was closed for the day.

Kourtney has been open about having had breast implants, and has not commented on having them removed for her pregnancy. She admitted to Life&Style that she had the procedure done with doing any research first and regretted the decision. “I wanted to go back to school with boobs,” Kardashian told the magazine. “It was so dumb. Luckily I went to the best doctor and had a great experience. But if I’d researched it online and read about it, I probably wouldn’t have gotten a boob job.”

However, today Kourtney says she doesn’t regret the decision anymore. “It’s been eight years. I’m totally happy.”

Kourtney is due in December.

Lindsay Lohan: Incident at nightspot had her ‘freaking out’

Lindsay Lohan is used to fame, photographers, and tabloid headlines. But, one thing she isn’t used to dealing with? Picking up the tab.

People is reporting that over the weekend, Lohan “screamed profanities” at a waiter when he presented her with the tab for two bottles of champagne she and a friend consumed during the course of the evening. The starlet is so used to free drinks, she didn’t even bring her wallet to the club.

“When the bartender gave her a bill, she had a meltdown,” a source told People. “She was yelling at him and screaming profanities at everyone. The bar insisted she pay, so she had to call a friend with her credit-card information.”

The onlooker says Lohan was still distraught when she left L.A.’s The Crown Barat 2:30am. “She was crying and wanted to go home. She kept saying ‘I don’t pay for drinks! This is ridiculous! I’m freaking out!’ “

Lohan has made news recently with multiple sightings of the star appearing to have swollen lips and sporting a “trout pout,” the signature look of stars who get lip augmentation with various fillers. Swelling usually goes down in a few days, leaving a more natural look. But, plastic surgeons believe her look is permanent.

“She appears to have had her lips augmented with a filler, such as Restylane or Juvederm. The larger lips are also accentuated by a somewhat poor outlining of her lip gloss,” Dr. Anthony Youn commented to MakeMeHeal.com. “Is it possible she may be trying to hide bruising which can occur with lip injections?”

Lohan has also been accused of influencing her younger sister, Ali, to start into a plastic surgery habit at a young age. At just 14 years old, Ali has already been rumored to have had dental veneers and lip injections.

Michael Lohan Does NOT Like Lap-Dances From Lindsay Lohan Lookalikes

Michael Lohan wants everyone to know that a rumor of his preference for strippers who resemble his daughter is “a complete lie.” His lawyers are on it.

Lindsay and Michael LohanMichael Lohan recently explained to RadarOnline.com that he’s been lied about, specifically regarding his taste for exotic dancers who resemble his daughter Lindsay. He’s considering legal action against the teller of this tale – a former owner of Scores, the strip club in New York City.

“Obviously this person is trying to make some money and publicity for himself,” Lohan told RadarOnline.com. “My lawyers are going after this person for defamation. This report is from 2004five years ago. I was in the club on one night. I sat at the bar, waiting for the owner because I was trying to schedule a bachelor party for my cousin. I never said anything about dances with Lindsay. I did not go inside the club where the dancers are, didn’t have a dance, and never, ever mentioned anything about my daughter. Nothing happened.”

Lohan’s possible legal action comes not long after reported friction between him and his daughter – including his complaints to E! that she “looks 100 years old” due to a bit too much hard living. And, Lindsay Lohan recently looks to have undergone some plastic surgery along with this rougher look, including fillers in her lips and face. Breast augmentation has been evident since 2007.

Some of these pictures show her in wardrobe prominently busty enough, frankly, to make one think of an exotic dancer. There is sometimes a resemblance that’s a bit on the uncanny side.

Still, Michael Lohan is likely speaking the simple truth about the Scores incident. Many would say the owner’s lap dance comment is absurd.

Real Housewives of NYC star Bethenny Frankel  won’t take her clothes off for just anyone.  PETA got Frankel’s support for their anti-fur campaign, even though she was pregnant at the time of the shoot. Frankel weighs in on how much Photoshopping was involved.

Bethenny Frankel PETABethenny Frankel was a New York City socialite and entrepreneur before being hit with the spotlight from Bravo in their hit reality series, The Real Housewives of New York City. But that attention has put the “Skinnygirl” cook on the map.

Now she’s on the street as well – in Times Square, that is. Today, a 58-foot billboard was unveiled featuring the 16-week pregnant star fully nude as part of PETA’s “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” campaign. Past models have included Khloe Kardashian and Twilight‘s Christian Serratos.

Frankel spoke to the New York Post about the ads, saying, “It’s so tasteful and beautifully done. I am especially pleased because it doesn’t look like there’s been any airbrushing, and I was already pregnant when I shot it.”

Frankel is currently 16 weeks pregnant; however, most first-time mothers begin “showing” as late as six months, some even later if they are very thin like Frankel, according to JustMommies.com.

Frankel has had more than a little airbrushing in real life; she told People magazine that she had a breast lift after a post-college 20-pound weight loss so that she “didn’t feel like a saggy mess.” She also says she tried Botox once but that she wouldn’t do it again because “[injectables] are scary!”

The Real Housewives of New York City‘s third season will air in March.

AccuLift May Out-Lift the Facelift

AccuLift is a new laser procedure that is half the price and may be a new alternative for those interested in a facelift.

acculift is a new alternative to faceliftA new laser procedure called AccuLift may offer potential facelift patients an alternative.

AccuLift, which is half the price of a facelift and faster recovery, is a laser facial rejuvenation procedure that melts fat deposits in the facial area into liquid.

In the process, the technique sculpts and tightens the skin and removes facial folds – making it an alternative not just to the facelift but for filler injections, such as Juvederm.

According to Lutronic, the company that makes the AccuSculpt laser system, the AccuLift technique requires only a few small incisions and local anesthetic. Currently, there is no controlled scientific data to determine whether the procedure works.

Patients should seek a board certified plastic surgeon to discuss what facelift procedure will work best for them.

Paula Abdul May Reunite with Simon Cowell

Paula Abdul may have landed a sweet deal with ABC, but the cash hinges on her appearance on a certain show as well as alongside Simon Cowell.

Paula Abdul may be spending more time with American Idol co-star Simon Cowell – only this time, on a different channel.

TMZ.com reported that ABC has offered Abdul a development deal of $1,000,000 that would pair her with Cowell for The X Factor, one of his ongoing projects.

To push the deal through, however, Abdul would have to appear on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. And according to TMZ.com, she needs to decide rather quickly, since the next Stars season begins in March 2010. ABC representatives have declined comment so far.

This new development relates to online speculation in August 2009 that Abdul was in talks to join the judges panel of So You Think You Can Dance? That long-term gig never came to pass, and this Dancing With The Stars package may suffer the same fate.

No matter what happens, though, Abdul won’t be ignored by the spotlight. Aside from her star power, which began in the 1980s, she continues to look spectacular. But given her age of 47 in such a high profile profession, there’s fair logic in wondering if she has maintained her looks with any plastic surgery. Current online photos of Abdul – and there are many – show a smooth, fresh face, nearly glowing with youth. For older women who want this look, Botox can help.

“I believe that Paula still looks great and is aging very well,” plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell Aston told MakeMeHeal.com. “I suspect that she has had regular Botox and fillers like Restylane or Juvederm to maintain her looks. It is also possible that she has recently undergone a brow lift as her upper face looks raised and wrinkle free. Ms. Abdul also maintains a healthy weight and exercise regimen, which is beneficial to staying and looking young.”

A spot of cosmetic touching up appears likely in Abdul’s case; that’s hardly a crime, given the results. And if she says yes to ABC, viewers are likely to see a lot more of her – alongside Simon Cowell, just like old times.

Dermal Filler Minimizes Wrinkles Without the Ouch

Dermal fillers are a popular treatment to minimize wrinkles and eliminate the signs of aging. Now, the FDA has approved a new version of a popular filler premixed with lidocaine to take away the sting.

The FDA has approved a new dermal filler that contains enough lidocaine to provide nearly instantaneous numbing for patients getting facial wrinkles and folds filled.

“Before the introduction of Juvederm XC, it often took up to 30 minutes for an anesthetic block to take effect,” clinical investigator Dr. Charles Boyd said in a press statement. The product has a similar safety profile as its predecessor, Juvederm, a gel hyaluronic acid dermal filler manufactured by Allergan.

The smooth consistency of the Juvederm gel makes it easier to inject and reportedly provides more natural looking results that last for up to a year. Injectable fillers provide a safe, non-surgical option for women and men who want to smooth facial wrinkles and folds without surgery, such as a brow lift or lower face lift.

The new formulation, Juvederm XC, maintains the same results as its predecessor and also contains a small amount of lidocaine, which numbs the treatment area within seconds, making the cosmetic treatment a more comfortable experience for the patient. The lidocaine is also intended to reduce or eliminate the need for any additional anesthetic.

The results during a double blind test were promising: 93 percent of patients reported less pain when treated with the new formulation of Juvederm compared to those treated with the non-lidocaine formulation.

Juvederm XC is now available nationwide; however, just like other dermal fillers, it should be administered by a trained medical professional.

Facial Aging Similar Between Mothers and Daughters

Facial aging follows a similar pattern between mothers and daughters, according to a new study, supporting the maxim that a groom should look at his mother-in-law to know what lies ahead.

Across the world, millions of young women have grown up hearing, “You look just like your mother.” Now, they can know what to expect in the years to come, thanks to a new study from Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Using computer modeling and 3D cameras to examine the faces of 40 mother-daughter pairs, the Plastic Surgery Research team found that mothers and daughters who look similar also age in a strikingly similar pattern. When measuring the changes in the aging female face, they found that volume loss in the lower eyelid began when women were in their mid-30s and progressed steadily through life. If a mother demonstrated this type of sagging, her daughter was likely to, as well.

However, women who mirror their moms needn’t surrender their face to destiny just yet. Thanks to breakthroughs in cosmetics and skin treatments, women today know a lot more about avoiding signs of aging than our mothers did when they were young. And recognizing how your mother’s face changed over the years could help guide a plastic surgeon in the appropriate procedures to address similar patterns of sagging skin or volume loss. For example, doctors would be able to pinpoint the appropriate areas to inject dermal fillers, such as Juvederm or Restylane, says Dr. Subhas Gupta, who led the research team at Loma Linda.

The new findings may be especially helpful for women in their mid-30s to early 50s, which is the ideal window for using minimally invasive techniques to maintain a youthful appearance. Other ways to slow the aging process naturally including eating healthy, limiting sun exposure, and not smoking, Dr. Gupta notes.

Don’t Let Filler Face Happen To You!

“You see it on TV and all over the media and we really want to prevent it… it just doesn’t look good.”
Cliff Clark, MD

Dr. Cliff Clark, a board certified plastic surgeon from Orlando, Florida is talking about a condition known on the street as filler face.  Filler face is what can happen when someone goes too far with injectable fillers in the face or in the lips. “Either too much has been injected or maybe too much in in the wrong place,” explains Clark. “Sometimes it’s no longer time for filler and the patient needs to progress to a surgical or laser procedure.”

By Clifford P. Clark, MD
and Carolynn Grimes
ThePlasticSurgeryChannel.com

It’s All About Proportion in the Lips

Lips with the right proportion

If your practitioner doesn’t have a good sense of proportion and facial aesthetics, you can very easily become filler face with the lips. “The upper lip should be 1/3—the lower lip should be 2/3, and if that proportion is off you can see it very quickly. Our mind is such a complex computer and it’s very sensitive to things being out of proportion,“ says Clark.

If a little is good, a lot is not necessarily better…

Nasolabial Folds

Remember that line, “If a little is good, a lot is not necessarily better!” The parenthesis lines, medically known as the nasolabial folds, are another commonly over-filled location.  Clark says, “Unfortunately, when the tissue descends, if you try to fill that area, the center of your face can look too full or too fat and you look out of balance.”

How do we avoid the over-filled look?

  • First and foremost, choose the appropriate practitioner, someone who has training with injectables.
  • A board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist is a good choice because they have a good sense of facial aesthetics and facial anatomy.
  • If you feel you want or need more, Dr. Clark recommends going slow by doing more in stages through the course of several different sessions.

Safety first

Clark notes, “With every good thing we tend to dive in with both feet.  It’s been one of the true great advancements in cosmetic enhancement; adding volume to the face has really allowed us to get a more natural result. However, people have taken it to extremes. We need to be very careful, but more important than that, we need to be safe.”

Sandra Bullock is "All About Steve", and Botox?

Sandra Bullock’s latest big screen adventure, All About Steve, pairs the actress opposite Bradley Cooper as his romantic interest. Bullock, 45, fits the role well, as she manages to always looks 30. Could Botox be the secret to her youthful look?

Sandra-Bullock-may-be-all-about-BotoxSandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper get together in their new romantic comedy All About Steve, which throws in all the tried-and-true elements: a road trip, opposites who attract and crossword puzzles.

Bullock plays a crossword puzzle constructor who falls in love with news cameraman Cooper and follows him around the country, hoping to win him over. It wouldn’t be quite right to lump this flick in with Bullock’s other romantic comedies, since she’s usually the one being pursued. But, the 45-year-old actress looks as pursuable as ever. She manages to look about 10 years younger, and true to Hollywood’s reputation, there is speculation that she has paid a visit to a plastic surgeon. But, forget about something as serious as a face lift. Judging by recent pictures, Botox Cosmetic comes to mind.

“It is possible Sandra Bullock has had Botox,” Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Nassif commented recently on MakeMeHeal.com. “Her forehead and frown lines are smooth; her medial eyebrow is low and this is possibly due to forehead Botox.”

Wrinkles and lines in these facial areas become more apparent as women enter their forties – and neurotoxins like Botox, or dermal fillers like Juvederm and Restylane, can help minimize their appearance.

But, if Bullock has used Botox in an attempt to hold up her wrinkles, she likely has left other areas alone, since she has a positive outlook on cellulite.

“We all have cellulite,” she told InStyle. “So do supermodels! I’ve been to the shows and I go, ‘Stick figure has some cellulite!’ It’s nature. Without it, you’re not human.”

Kellie Pickler Debuts Hot New Video

Kellie Pickler recently premiered a new video for her hit single “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You?”But the Country sweetheart is making headlines for more than just her music.

Kellie PicklerHot Country singer Kellie Pickler released her latest music video last week for the heartbreaking “Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You,” showing off her sexy curves in a variety of steamy settings.

Pickler told CMT Radio Live, “The first time I heard the song, I thought it would be cool to shoot this video on a beach or just some sort of exotic location.” The video, which was shot in the Dominican Republic, aired September 11 exclusively on CMT’s Top 20 Countdown and won positive reviews from fans.

But her hot new video isn’t the only thing that has tabloids buzzing about Ms. Pickler. Since stepping out with a tasteful breast augmentation two years ago, Kellie’s appearance has continued to generate juicy rumors about further alterations, including multiple facial cosmetic procedures.

Pickler’s rep told InTouch, “She has not had any facial surgery of any kind.” But, it seems that some of Beverly Hills’ most famous plastic surgeons do not agree.

kellie-pickler-plastic-surgery-overkillIn a report on MakeMeHeal.com, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Sherrell Aston hypothesized, “Kellie Picker looks like she might have had a rhinoplasty and cheek implants in addition to a disproportionate amount of Botox. It is also possible that she had the hooding removed from her upper eyelid.”

Dr. David Schafer added, “Based on the pictures, it appears that Kellie Pickler’s brow balance has been thrown off by Botox. Her medial brow has dropped, giving a peaked appearance to her brows. She also appears to possibly have lip fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane, but it is hard to tell from just the pictures.”

It seems that the American Idol beauty is raising eyebrows about more than just her chart topping tunes. Didn’t Kellie know how much everyone loved her, even before her cosmetic procedures?

Lindsay Lohan Gets it in the Kisser

Lindsay Lohan has some questionable lip work done that has left fans wondering: “Did she get punched in the mouth?”

Lindsay LohanLindsay Lohan is sporting a puffier pout these days, possibly thanks to a new lip job. Rumors are that this isn’t Lohan’s first lip enhancement, but this time it’s noticeable. Her new lips are so exaggerated that it causes a shadow above her mouth that almost looks like a mustache, or Kool-Aid stain.

“Her lips are looking a bit puffy, possibly the result of Restylane or the new Juvederm injectables,” Dr. Tony Youn said on his celebrity plastic surgery blog. “If she’s had them done recently, the swelling will subside within a couple days and the next time you see her she may look pretty normal. If the swelling is already gone, then she is going to look this way for the next six months.”

Lip enhancements come in a variety of forms, from implants to injectables. Most injectables are temporary, but a few are permanent. Implants are made from polyacrylamide, and most are permanent but reversible.

Other celebrities rumored to have had lip enhancement procedures include Courtney Love, Brittany Murphy, Meg Ryan, and Jessica Simpson. Lip enhancement has continued to gain popularity since new biocompatible materials have decreased the cost, recovery time and complexity of the procedure. Apparently, La-Lohan has taken the plunge to test it out.

Megan Fox Replaces Victoria Beckham As Armani Lingerie Model

Megan Fox replaces Victoria Beckham as the body for sexy Armani lingerie ads. Beckham may be out, but she’s not down about it.

David and Victoria BeckhamMegan Fox is in, and Posh is out in the newest Armani lingerie ads. The Transformers and Jennifer’s Body star is set to replace Britain’s biggest WAG as the face of Armani lingerie. Fox’s ads will hit sometime in January, and the star will also be the face representing the brand’s premium jean line.

It was also recently announced that David Beckham would be replaced on the men’s side of Armani by 24-year-old Real Madrid soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo. Unlike the Beckhams, Fox and Ronaldo will not appear in any of the ads together.

Victoria Beckham had expressed concern about exposing so much skin while shooting the ads, saying she was self conscious about showing her stomach, which bears the telltale signs of three pregnancies.

A source close to Posh told the UK Daily Express, “She adores the pics but she is extremely critical of her body and finds fault with everything. She says her stomach has been reworked with make-up and lighting and she is grateful for that.”

Victoria Beckham is well-known for her plastic surgery, and is rumored to have increased her chest size from B to DD with implants, and back down again. Other sources also claim she had rhinoplasty to narrow her nose, lip augmentation and Botox.

But, Megan Fox is no plastic surgery virgin either, and is rumored to have had some facial work done and breast augmentation, according to the experts at In Touch: “Her upper and lower lips appear fuller. It looks like she had Restylane or Juvéderm injections. The bridge of her nose is thinner and the tip is more refined. The well-defined contour of an implant is apparent. She was probably an A cup and became a large B.”

Only the retouching crew at Armani will really know who had what done.

Stephanie Pratt Blames DUI On Her Heels

Stephanie Pratt blames her shoes for her DUI, but the breathalyzer indicated otherwise. Both breathalyzers, that is. Is The Hills actress taking her DUI seriously?

Stephanie Pratt The HillsStephanie Pratt is changing her tune: she says she wasn’t pulled over for impaired driving – it was for the tint on her windows. She also says she was sober at the traffic stop, and would have passed her sobriety test if it weren’t for her 3-inch heeled boots.

However, the state contends Pratt failed two breathalyzer tests. Pratt pleaded not guilty on account of the heels and will face up to six months in prison and a $1,000 fine if convicted. However, her attorney Jon Bryant Artz is fighting for 30-day stint in live-in rehab, to avoid driving until she gets a valid license and to refrain from drinking to remain free on her own recognizance.

“She’s trying one day at a time to do the right thing in respects to her life and facing whatever issues she may have,” Artz tells E!News. “She’s taking this case very seriously, and she’s taking the issue of alcohol very seriously.”

Pratt says the experience was a “blessing in disguise” and that jail just may have scared her straight. After all, there were bugs. “It was probably my fifth hour in jail, when cockroaches were on the floor,” she tells E! News. “I was there for like nine hours.”

Another drawback of jail? No smuggling in her Juvederm fixes. In the last year, Pratt has been rumored to have had lip injections, a nose job and breast augmentation.  Although the reality star isn’t talking about whether the show made her self-conscious enough to get a surgical fix, she has said she has struggled with self-esteem issues and bulimia, and that being a reality star forced her to deal with it.

” ‘The Hills’ did not make me bulimic,” she told MTV News. “It was my own issues with self-esteem, and if anything, my life on ‘The Hills’ has only helped me get healthy, ’cause I know how lucky I am to have this job and to have the chance to be a role model.”

A facial filler that just hit the market means looking younger just got less expensive and less painful. It’s the first filler approved by the FDA that has an anesthetic premixed in the solution.

A new and improved facial filler has hit the market – boasting a low price and the distinction of being the first one approved by the government to mix lidocaine and hyaluronic acid.

The combination brings the promise of a facelift that is more affordable and comfortable for its patients.

The product is called Hydrelle, a product from Anika Therapeutics, based in Massachusetts.

It is a dermal filler that has lidocaine, an anesthetic, mixed in during manufacturing. This sets it apart from other fillers that require pre-injection mixing. Similar to Juvederm and Restylane, the results of Hydrelle last roughly a year.

But according to its promotional literature, Hydrelle not only costs less than those products, but produces the same results with half the amount. It has been designed to correct folds and wrinkles of all sizes through only 50 percent of the injection volumes required by other fillers.

Hydrelle has received the blessing of the Food and Drug Administration after successful testing on more than 200 patients. Clinical studies have shown that negative side effects were no more than moderate in nature and usually disappeared within a week.

Looking younger just got less expensive and less painful.

Diaz stars opposite Tom Cruise, who plays a secret agent that takes her on a worldwide adventure after the two meet on a blind date. Scheduled to premiere next summer, the film will mark a reunion for Diaz and Cruise, who both starred in the 2001 romantic thriller Vanilla Sky.

In 2002, Cameron also made a cameo as the “girl on metro” in Tom’s action film Minority Report. But, of course, she’s an action hero in her own right, having earned her stripes twice over in Charlie’s Angels.

Despite her blockbuster success, Diaz is perhaps still best known for her beach babe looks. After beginning her career as a model, the 5’11”, blue-eyed starlet won the hearts of movie fans with her debut in the Jim Carrey film The Mask.  She continues to be cast for her cover girl face, but now insiders are speculating that her fantastic features aren’t completely god given.

Diaz apparently is no stranger to the plastic surgeons’ office. In the past, she has been open about a corrective rhinoplasty operation she had after breaking her nose four times. But, recent photos indicate that Cam may have had a little more work done besides that minor nasal correction.

Dr. Jennifer Walden told MakeMeHeal.com, “In the past she has admitted to multiple surgeries on her nose to alleviate breathing problems and to correct a broken nose, somewhat understandable as she is a self-proclaimed surfer girl. Recently there have been rumors that Cameron has been using injectables, such as Botox. At the 2009 MTV Awards her forehead was smoother and shinier than normal, which can indicate Botox use. However, she has fine lines around the outer and inner corners of her eyes when she smiles, possible consequence of sun exposure and the normal aging process. Magazine photos taken for covers are often airbrushed, which can contribute to the flawless look many celebrities have in some shots but not others.”

When asked about further plastic surgery ventures, Cam recently told Us Magazine, “I’d love a bigger butt, more meat on my bones. I’d love to be more voluptuous. It’s just not my body type.”

Whether a Brazilian butt lift is in Diaz’s future remains to be seen. But, odds are, fans like her little athletic beach bod just the way it is.

Botox® and fillers continue to be top procedures at plastic surgery officers everywhere for the simple fact that they work, and work very well. Dr. Stafford Broumand, a board certified plastic surgeon from New York City, sat down to discuss the dramatic impact injectables have made on his practice, providing “game-changing” results for his patients.

Botox and Injectable Fillers: Game Changers

juvederm_voluma_xc_bannerEveryone knows the word Botox, even those who aren’t quite sure what it is or what it does, knows the name. “It’s a game-changer for our practice,” says Dr. Broumand. “Patients can walk out of our office and look better, and after 5 days when the Botox has kicked in, the procedure can take years off of their face. For a woman in her 40′s or 50′s, she can look 10 years younger with a little injectable in the forehead or around the cheeks.”

New Filler Last Even Longer

In addition to Botox and commonly used fillers, a new filler has hit the market that dramatically increases how long the effect lasts. While the common injectable materials last a few months, the new product, called Voluma, has been found to last for over a year. “Voluma gives the round, attractive look to the face that has been lost due to age,” says Broumand. “It’s very subtle and is placed deep across the bone. Patients notice it when they leave the office, and it lasts for 1-2 years!”

The results and hype of injectable materials has spread across more than just plastic surgery offices. Dermatologists, spa clinicians and even dentists are offering the procedure to patients. While it may seem easy to just inject something into the face, it takes a deep understanding of facial anatomy and surgical experience to get the best results. These qualifications can be found at the office of a board certified plastic surgeon.

“A lot of people do this, but I believe our skill at plastic surgery, and thus our understanding of human anatomy, allows us deeper insight into how a face ages, and how to fight the aging process,” says Broumand. “You wouldn’t go to a gas station to have them work on your Mercedes… you take it to a Mercedes dealership. They understand the car. We understand facial anatomy, we understand what we’re trying to affect. Botox and fillers in the hands of a board certified plastic surgeon is your best bet at finding great results.”

Aging Gracefully With Smaller, More Individualized Procedures

Plastic surgery is often thought of as a collection of beauty enhancing procedures that take an aged face from zero to youthful with one big procedure. With the introduction of modern non-invasive procedures and facial fillers, plastic surgery is turning more into a field of maintenance.  Dr. Kevin Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina goes in depth about why small procedures spread out through the years, perhaps even starting earlier in life, keeps aging at bay and helps maintain a patient’s beauty for years to come.

More Options for Specific Problems Means A Better Rejuvenation

making-bedPlastic surgery patients can collectively rejoice; never before has such a variety of procedures and surgical tools been available to maintain a youthful appearance. “We have so many more tools in the tool box for facial rejuvenation now,” says Dr. Smith. “We’ve got great products for skin care, we’ve got fillers and Botox, and better surgical procedures.”

The plethora of both surgical and non-surgical options allow surgeons a finer touch. Maybe you only have a few wrinkles, or simply need some volume restored. Instead of resorting to a one-option-for-all type of procedure, plastic surgeons can create an individualized plan for your unique issues. Dr. Smith’s expertise at creating such a plan is expressed specifically at facial rejuvenation. ”I like to think facial rejuvenation is like making a bed, and I explain this to my patients,” says Smith. “When you make a bed, you put the pillows in the right place, so that restores the mid face volume. When you tuck in the sheet, that’s the surgery part. We’re not done yet! If you make a bed with a wrinkled sheet or stained sheet, regardless of how tight you pull it, you still have those wrinkles and stains.”  This is where facial fillers, Botox and skin care might come into play.

Analyzing a Patient’s Unique Anatomy and Age

The bed analogy highlights the impressive new tools available to board certified plastic surgeons. ”When you come into the office, we determine what the problems are during our consultation,” says Smith. “Plastic surgeons are problem solvers. We don’t simply apply operations.”

The justification for a face lift isn’t because a patient has an old-looking face. Surgeons analyze which parts of the face are combining to create a sense of age, and create a treatment plan to address those issues. ”During the consult, I might say, ‘Well, you have a bit of extra eye lid skin, or you’ve lost a bit of cheek volume, or you have some wrinkles that we need to correct, or you have heavy neck skin.’,” says Smith. “Every operation is individualized to the patient.”

Maintaining Beauty for Years to Come

The individualized care with smaller, more precise procedures helps keep patients young consistently, instead of waiting to look aged and seek out one big dramatic change. “Plastic surgery has really become a maintenance field,” says Smith. “We’re starting earlier performing smaller, more non-invasive facial procedures. As the patient gets older, then we might look at doing the bigger surgical procedures as we see fit. In this way, with smaller procedures more often, patients don’t appear to age.”
